By now you might have heard that Intel and Nokia are merging their respective mobile Linux Operating Systems — Mobilin and Maemo. The merged effort is going to be called MeeGo. Nokia and Intel have announced a partnership to combine their mobile software platforms into one, MeeGo, which will be suitable for smartphones, MIDs, netbooks, smartbooks and other mobile devices.… Nokia and Intel unveiled their plan in February to create MeeGo, a merger of Nokia’s Linux Maemo software platform with Intel’s Moblin, which is also based on Linux open-source software.

Nokia had started developing the Maemo 6 operating system already in 2008, and was quite far in the development before Nokia and Intel decided to merge Maemo and Moblin into MeeGo. Nokia decided to continue developing Maemo 6, codename Harmattan, and to make it as compatible with MeeGo as possible. En samling före-detta Nokia-anställda har beslutat sig för att starta upp att vara Nokias framtida smartphone-plattform tillsammans med Intel.

Det finns inga investeringar i utvecklingen av ekosystemet för Meego från Nokia.
